The HistoryAfter reading the Newsweek article on Weblogs (August 26, 2002), we decided to give Blogger a try. We must admit we'd never heard of blogs before--though we had entertained the idea of publishing on the Internet previously. And so on
October 5, 2002, Simpatico went on-line and joined the Blog Nation.
A local newspaper columnist dismissed a lot of blogs as "self-indulgent clap-trap." We haven't evaluated too many blogs ourselves. But we have seen cases where if the authors sneezed, they wrote about it. Personal blogging, not unlike first-person journalism, is much harder to do well than it appears. You may have noticed that Simpatico and its sub-pages don't look like your typical blogs. That's because we view Blogger as a publishing tool; we don't care that it was created for people to publish logs and reports. In other words, we want to publish a "regular" Web site, not a diary or journal. If you want to read about someone catching a cold, look elsewhere.
Some companies keep their first customer's payment as a souvenir. We'll always remember our first e-mail, which was sent from b**o.com on November 7, 2002. It was a bit of a surprise since neither Google nor Yahoo had added our Web addresses to their databases at the time.
The NameNo, Simpatico has nothing to do with the 2001 film of the same name, nor is it inspired by The Sims, a popular computer game. Bell Canada’s Sympatico is only related to us as a homonym. We’ve always liked the meaning and sound of the word. And we believe it fits what we’re trying to accomplish.
The Bottom LineSimpatico.blogspot.com is an independent publisher. It is not affiliated with any entertainment or media company, nor does it have a material connection to any entity or business. If we should receive a promotional product or free service in the future, we will disclose that information. Our Web pages are currently published on Blogspot.com, a Web host operated by Pyra Labs, the Blogger company that was acquired by Google in February 2003. Any Google/Blogger branding you see on our pages is beyond our control.
Contact InformationSimpatico welcomes your comments. Send your e-mail to
simcoblog at the domain
gmail.com (this should hopefully foil some spammers from trolling for this address). To help us separate your e-mail from spam or worse, please be descriptive in your subject line or simply specify "Simco" for general comments/questions about this home page. Don’t send us attachments for security reasons. Make sure your e-mail account is not blocking our e-mail domain. And tell us how you found out about Simpatico.
Privacy PolicySimpatico.blogspot.com will not share your e-mail address with any party.
Help CenterQ. Do you answer all your e-mail?
A. We try to address all questions that require an answer. As much as we like to poke fun at our postal service, mail delivery is less of a problem in the physical world. When e-mail is lost, pinpointing the culprit is difficult because the Internet comprises a vast network of disparate hardware and software. Users are usually oblivious to any problems except in rare cases when they are notified (for example, our e-mail provider was off-line for over 24 hours during a software upgrade in December 2002). As we stated earlier, make sure your e-mail account is not blocking our e-mail domain. If you haven't heard from us after a week, you may want to resend your question. We reserve the right to change this policy without prior notice.
If your e-mail provider is blocking our e-mail domain, contact us again using a different e-mail system. It’s also possible your e-mail software is treating our message as possible spam because of the unknown sender—yes, spammers have ruined it for everyone—in which case you may consider adding our e-mail address to your address book.
Q. Do you have an e-newsletter?
A. No. But we give you something even better—we broadcast our time-stamped site map as digital news feed. Set your newsreader to
simpatico.blogspot.com/atom.xml and you’ll be notified whenever one of our Web pages gets updated. If your browser does not include a newsreader, you can download one for free or test-drive a Web-based service such as Bloglines (bloglines.com).
